Hey there. I'm a food blogging lawyer as well, and I live in NYC. Thanks for the recommendations! I am with you on Nobu and, even moreso, WD-50. Fantastic tasting menus.
Hi, Danielle! Thanks for reading. I love your city and envy the cadre of restaurants at your disposal; I only get to check them out intermittently during sporadic visits. With respect to Nobu, I must reluctantly admit that I really disliked it (both the one in Tribeca and the newer one in midtown, where I also had the pleasure of getting food poisoning). Most of the dishes were clumsy and unbalanced, the sake list was dismal, and both the food and the atmosphere felt like a Japanese version of P.F. Chang's. Even though the decor is not much more refined, Megu was much better executed on all fronts, and for innovative sushi, I prefer Bar Masa. But WD-50, I definitely agree that the tasting menu is worth the experience, at least once.
Kuruma Zushi and Sushi Yasuda are conspiculously missing from your list.
Kuruma has some of the very best raw fish in america. Their sushi is not as good but you go for the fish:

Sushi Yasuda has high quality fish but the rice is magical. It's even relatively cheap (~$125/person) for lunch.
